Dear Church Family,
As the holiday season approaches, we are sent many well wishes and prayer requests from those we know, and some we don't know. The email about Cindy and Gary Hogan who supposedly is serving in Iraq is one such false story. This story is true on one front, the wife mentioned in it did have cervical cancer in 2001. As of 2006, she is still cancer free. However, this is not the wife of someone serving in Iraq. I do ask you to please continue to pray for Cindy to stay cancer free and for her family, but wanted you to have all the information available about her story. Please go to www.snopes.com and look up Gary Hogan and the whole story is available for you to read.

Below is an email I have received several times in the past few days. As I am sure many of you have received it as well.
This was such an awesome idea. I was going to include this in the next newsletter so I double checked the accuracy first. I do this with most of the military related emails I receive. As stated on the Walter Reed website, they CANNOT accept packages or letters addressed to "any" or "a recovering soldier", etc. There has to be a specific name, or it is considered undeliverable. The same goes for packages overseas. Since 9-11 several changes have been made for security/terrorism reasons, and this was one of them.
If any of you know of any military personnel recovering at Walter Reed, or any other medical facility and wouldn't mind sharing their information and address, we would be more than happy to send as many letters to them as possible!
So please be aware that ANY email you might receive this holiday season that asks for mail to be sent to a soldier, and no names are specified, it is considered undeliverable mail by our U.S. government.
May they ALL come home safely,

Welcome Home 1LT David McRaney!
Wow! What an awesome day!! David and Jen McRaney received a 4 day pass to come home for the first time after David's injury in Afghanistan (early September 2010). David is a 1LT Army Reservist and was injured in a mortar attack on Labor Day this year. He was transferred to Germany, Bethesda and now Walter Reed. What a fitting tribute for him to be officially greeted home by his friends, fellow servicemen, and the local chapter of the American Legion today, November 11th, Veterans Day. We met him and Jen at McCollum Airport in Kennesaw this morning, and it was so wonderful to see his smiling face! A big "Thank You" is extended to our friends at the American Legion, especially Jim Tully who coordinated the effort!! Dave and Jen were escorted back to Dallas by Cobb, Austell, and Paulding Police and the American Legion.
Thank you David, Jen, and all veterans who have served and are serving our country currently!
Dave and Jen will return to Walter Reed Sunday evening, but not before they visit their family at Dallas First this Sunday at the 11 am service.
