As I am sure many of you have received it as well.
This was such an awesome idea. I was going to include this in the next newsletter so I double checked the accuracy first. I do this with most of the military related emails I receive. I just went to the Walter Reed website, and they CANNOT accept packages or letters addressed to "any" or "a recovering soldier", etc. There has to be a specific name, or it is considered undeliverable. The same goes for packages overseas. Since 9-11 several changes have been made for security/terrorism reasons, and this was one of them.
If any of you know of any military personnel recovering at Walter Reed, or any other medical facility and wouldn't mind sharing their information and address, we would be more than happy to send as many letters to them as possible!
So please be aware that ANY email you might receive this holiday season that asks for mail to be sent to a soldier, and no names are specified, it is considered undeliverable mail by our U.S. government.

May they ALL come home safely,
Lisa Wahle

Email Alert

Dear Church Family,
As the holiday season approaches, we are sent many well wishes and prayer requests from those we know, and some we don't know. The email about Cindy and Gary Hogan who supposedly is serving in Iraq is one such false story. This story is true on one front, the wife mentioned in it did have cervical cancer in 2001. As of 2006, she is still cancer free. However, this is not the wife of someone serving in Iraq. I do ask you to please continue to pray for Cindy to stay cancer free and for her family, but wanted you to have all the information available about her story. Please go to www.snopes.com and look up Gary Hogan and the whole story is available for you to read.
Thank you for being a church that cares and prays for those in need.
Many blessings during this holiday season,
Lisa Wahle

Packing Christmas Boxes

Please join Serving Our Soldiers this Wednesday, December 2nd, at 6:30 pm in the Family Life Center as we pack Christmas boxes for soldiers. Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this

eighth anniversary of one of our country's worst tragedies. We do this to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at
home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.

In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds

Action Plan:
So, here's what we need you to do.
(1) Send your message to friends/family to fly the flag. Take a moment to think back to how you felt on 9/11 and let those sentiments guide you.
(2) Fly an American flag of any size on 9/11. Honestly, Americans should fly the flag year-round, but if you don't, then at least make it a priority on this day.

Thank you for your participation. God Bless You and God Bless America!

Welcome Home!!

Welcome Home Soldiers!
SOS would like to Welcome Home Ben Brown and Greg Glover. King

John 15:13 (NIV)
13Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

Thank you SPC. Ryan King for your service and sacrifice for our country. It's because of heroes like you that our children live in a free nation. May God welcome you into that special place He has reserved for those who serve. You will never be forgotten.
To the family of SPC. Ryan King, may God bless and comfort you in this time of loss and know that you will be together again. Sandra and David Moore of DFUMC are Ryan's Aunt and Uncle.

SPC Ryan Charles King, age 22, of Hobart, Indiana (formerly of Paulding County), passed away Friday, May 1, 2009, while serving his country in the U S Army, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

He was born on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 1986, in Marietta, GA. He attended Faith Lutheran Church in Marietta for many years.

He played baseball in Canton, Powder Springs, and Dallas over the years, and truly loved being a Georgia boy and a family man. SPC King was a graduate of East Paulding High School Class of 2005.

A few months after graduation he enlisted in the Army, something he had wanted to do since he was a child. He went to basic training at Fort Sill in Oklahoma, followed by AIT at Fort Huachuca in Arizona. After he completed his training, he was stationed in Korea for a year, where he met his wife.

As a member of the Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry, they both left for deployment to Eastern Afghanistan in July 2008 and both were scheduled to return to Fort Hood in Texas in June 2009. Getting a letter in the mail is a way to feel connected and supported to the country you left back home. SOS is looking for volunteers to write letters to soldiers this year. You don't have to be a poet, or Pulitzer prize winning author, just a willing heart and the ability to simply say, "Thank you." Please contact Lisa Wahle at lbwahle@hotmail.com, or 770-505-0881 to sign up today!
